Raspberry Picking, Bridges, and Hikes

The Saturday after our camping trip, we decided to set out on a fun little family trip to Carnation, which is about forty minutes away. The goal was to pick some raspberries and then explore a nearby state park.

Picking raspberries was more enjoyable than I could have hoped for. Picture overload for you, but I love them all.

The kids were excited, it was fun for Brigham and me, and the weather was great - sunny, but not too hot.

Not to mention, the scenery was GORGEOUS. I could have spent hours in those fields.

Raspberries are easy to pick, and there were plenty of them, so we could wander whichever way we wanted.

It helped that we could eat as much as our stomachs could hold while simultaneously filling our baskets.

Kendrick was a riot as he went from bush to bush, shoveling the berries in his mouth as fast as possible, whether ripe or not. He also fell in the dirt a million times and came out of the raspberry patch a little dustball.

I think he at least ate his weight's worth.

Soon it turned into a competition of who could find the biggest raspberry, and the kids got their picture taken with their best find.

We found some as big as strawberries!

We picked as much as we could take home in only twenty minutes, and then explored and ate ourselves silly until we were ready to leave.

At home we ate our raspberries plain, made overnight oats and pancake topping, put them in yogurt, and more. We're already looking forward to going back next year!

After raspberry picking, we drove five minutes to Tolt-Mcdonald State Park to check it out. We found a shady picnic table next to an awesome tree and ate lunch and climbed.

It was a good distance up into the tree and we had fun feeling adventurous. Of course, Brigham had to climb up extremely high after we were done to show us all up.

Can you spot Brigham?

Kendrick climbed to the top of the picnic table and hung around in his low-rider shorts.

After we ate lunch, we walked across the suspension bridge that crossed the Snoqualmie River. It was beautiful.

We were jealous of all the swimmers in bathing suits and floaties as we did a couple short hikes along the river.

Feeling like our small hikes weren't enough to quell my hiking itch, I did a lot of sweet-talking and finally convinced Brigham and kids to hike Snoqualmie Falls on our way back home. The hike isn't too long, but it can be steep and it was the late afternoon.

Fearing a rebellion, I used bribery and encouragement, but they were troopers and we really enjoyed ourselves. We wanted to feel the mist from the falls at the bottom, but unfortunately they have changed it so that you can't get very close to the falls. That was a bummer - not to mention it was super crowded. Luckily, we only live twenty minute away so we can go at a better time when not so many people are there. It's truly a beautiful place I would love to explore more.

I promised everyone that if they were good on the hike, that we would go out to dinner, and they were SO good. The whole day was lovely. No fighting or whining, and lots of play and outdoors. So we ended it with dinner at Olive Garden, which just makes it that much more perfect in my opinion, and then a family bike ride around the neighborhood. I couldn't have asked for a better Saturday, or better people to spend it with.
